The two parts of hair

There are two parts of the hair that we need to consider in hair care .

The hair follicle which is the living part and contains the hair root, it is in the second layer of the skin. From this part the hair nourishes and grows. The blood supply goes to the hair follicle .There is a connection with two types of glands, the sebaceous and sweat glands .The secretion of these two glands form the protective oily layer of the skin and hair (the scalp is part of the skin).

The second part  of the hair is the hair shaft (the visible part of the hair) which is dead. It is mainly protein (keratin) composes of three layers, the cuticle which is the outermost, then the cortex and medulla in the middle which is disorganized open area.

Coconut oil can do wonders for your hair .it will give it a shine and healthy lustre as well as enrich its natural colour. Some claim that it helps prevent both premature greying and baldness.

General Health and Nutrition affect Hair Beauty

By now we understand why healthy food affects our hair texture and growth, as the hair receives the nutrients from the blood supply in the skin .The hair is also affected by medical conditions, medications, psychological traumas, skin diseases and hormonal imbalance.

Natural protective layer of the skin and hair

The mixture of sebum (from sebaceous gland) and sweat (from the sweat gland) form the natural skin protective layer. It is slightly acidic (the ph. is around 5). Sebum contains medium chain triglyceride which is antimicrobial, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory. Bacteria flora on the skin which is non-pathogenic changes the triglyceride fatty acid in the sebum into free fatty acid (the active antimicrobial agent) by eating the glycerol part of the triglyceride.

By combing, this protective layer of the scalp spread down to the hair shaft hydrating it, moisturizes it and protect it from absorbing harmful environmental elements.

Why Coconut oil for hair

Coconut oil contains the same type of fat in the sebum which is the medium chain fatty acids .It penetrates to the deeper layers of the scalp, and in the hair because of its small size fatty acid. It protects the scalp health, by its antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory power. It moisturizes and adds all the  beauty touches to your hair

Apply coconut oil to your hair once a week and feel the changes. You will have your silky, shiny and a brighter colour hair that you love .
