Fractionated Coconut oil is100% MCT

But not Lauric acid

Fractionated coconut oil is also called medium chain triglyceride (MCTs). Coconut oil composed of 10 types of fatty acids which includes saturated medium chain, polyunsaturated and monounsaturated triglyceride. They separate it and take a fraction of two types of the medium chain triglycerides which are the Caprylic (C8) and the Capric (C10) fatty acid. Fractionated coconut oil is 100% medium chain triglycerides of the coconut oil and have no Lauric acid.

Fractionated coconut oil is used as a concentrated source of medium chain triglyceride for medicinal purpose especially in Ketogenic diet for epileptic patients, Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases.  It also can be used in cooking, salad dressing, body massage and for hair care.

FRACTIONATED COCONUT OIL VS, THE NATURAL COCONUT OIL

Coconut oil is a natural, perfect combination of fatty acids that the body need for a balance healthy nutrition.it contains about 63% medium chain triglyceride. Fractionated coconut oil is not natural, but it is man-made oil. Still it is 100% medium chain triglyceride, so it supplies more MCTs per unit which we need in many cases .

When there is a dysfunctional problem going on in the body the need for concentrated MCTs becomes a medicine of choice, as for patients with Alzheimer’s. MCTs supply the brain food for patients with neurodegenerative diseases .MCTs produce ketones that provide the brain with the energy it needs to live and heal the damaged neural tissue.

There is no Lauric acid in MCTs oil .Lauric acid is the most powerful antimicrobial fatty acid in coconut oil. This makes coconut oil superior to MCTs in treating same pathologic conditions, as most of the chronic diseases have microbial infection in its origin.

For the purpose of Ketogenic diet, fractionated coconut oil elevates ketones in the blood faster than coconut oil does. On the other hand coconut oil maintains the nutritional ketone blood level for longer time than MCTs do .It lasts for 8 hours while with MCTs ketosis remains for 3 hours only .This is so important in treating neurodegenerative diseases because at night, during sleeping the brain still needs energy, MCTs can’t cover it without adding coconut oil.
